Event narrative
Large trees were blown down on the westbound lanes of Hwy 31 between Kerens and Trinidad, with tops of other trees also blown out.
Wider weather episode
A Northern Plains low pressure system, a northeast-to-southwest oriented stationary front across North Texas, and shortwave trough traversing the Texas Panhandle were all contributing factors to the development of widespread severe weather May 16 and 17. A highly unstable environment led to many instances of large hail and damaging winds.
