Approximately 3 inch hail was reported by the public via social media (some hailstones may have been up to 3.5 inches in diameter). The time of occurrence is estimated by radar.
Wider weather episode
Shortwave troughing and upslope flow generated scattered thunderstorms in the higher terrain of West Texas. Meanwhile, troughing and a stationary front/outflow boundary helped generate thunderstorms across portions of Southeast New Mexico. A number of these storms became severe, producing damaging winds (including microbursts) and large hail. A landspout was reported near Loving, and flooding was also reported (especially in Pecos County).
