A social media video showed a funnel cloud just northwest of U.S. Route 58. The area of rotation tracked over a heavily wooded area with no damage reported.

An occluded low was located over the Ohio Valley with a stationary front across central Virginia on May 5. A cold front gradually moved east during the late afternoon and evening of May 5, allowing for scattered severe thunderstorms across central and eastern Virginia. Additionally, an isolated severe storm formed during the morning of May 5 across central Virginia.
