A member of the public shared a picture of a large hailstone on social media near Grassfield High School. The hail size was estimated to be at least 2 inches in diameter.
Wider weather episode
A secondary cold front and upper level trough brought scattered severe thunderstorms to southeast Virginia in the late afternoon and evening. These storms mainly produced large hail, with a few reports of golf ball size hail and larger.
