Wider weather episode
A stalling cold front across central North Carolina and a prefrontal trough that developed across the Coastal Plain and tracked east towards the coast brought widespread shower and thunderstorm activity to much of Eastern North Carolina through the afternoon and evening on July second. Showers and thunderstorms developed across the Coastal Plain during the late morning hours, with this activity pushing east and merging into a large linear segment. A few storms became strong to severe within this line bringing strong wind gusts to the Roanoke, Croatan, and Pamlico Sounds as well as the waters around the Core Banks during the afternoon and evening hours.
