Event narrative
Pecos County Emergency Manager reported that 3 high water rescues were taking place 4 miles south of I-10 along RM 2023. Up to 4 ft of water was reported to be across the road. The total time interval during which the flood occurred is estimated from radar and estimated runoff time. The cost of damages is also estimated.
Wider weather episode
Shortwave troughing and upslope flow generated scattered thunderstorms in the higher terrain of West Texas. Meanwhile, troughing and a stationary front/outflow boundary helped generate thunderstorms across portions of Southeast New Mexico. A number of these storms became severe, producing damaging winds (including microbursts) and large hail. A landspout was reported near Loving, and flooding was also reported (especially in Pecos County).
