Wider weather episode

Scattered thunderstorms sprouted across southwest Virginia on the afternoon on May 30th ahead of a low pressure system. A warm front lifted north through the area earlier in the morning, causing the environment to become hot and humid, easily capable of creating showers and thunderstorms in the area. Gusty to damaging winds accompanying storm activity resulted in downed trees and power lines in both Dickenson and Buchanan Counties. A cold front eventually tracked overhead by the evening of the 30th, and diminished the risk for severe weather in the area.
