Event narrative
A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team confirmed a near continuous swath of straight line wind damage beginning near Swansea, extending southeast across Lake Marion into Clarendon County. An EF1 tornado also occurred within this broader swath of damage. Combining ground observations and radar, this swath started with a strong macroburst near Swansea causing substantial tree damage along Pine Plain Road and elsewhere. The damaging winds pushed southeast across Saint Matthews and Lone Star before crossing Lake Marion. Additional damaging winds occurred in Summerton, Davis Station, and Wyboo.

An upper trough moved into the Southeast region during the afternoon on May 30th with an associated surface cold front. These features moved into an environment with modest instability and strong deep layer shear, yielding a severe line of convection that brought wind damage and a tornado south of Manning, SC.
