The county emergency manager reported quarter to ping pong ball size hail in the Moss Lake area, approximately 8 miles northwest of Gainesville.

On May 22, strong to severe thunderstorms developed across western North Texas, driven by a northward-moving warm front and a southward-propagating upper-level disturbance. Areas extending from Gainesville southwest to Eastland experienced occasional severe weather impacts, including large hail and damaging wind gusts.
