Event narrative
The Lynnhaven Inlet Light 2 mesonet (XLHI) measured a gust to 35 knots (40 miles per hour).
Wider weather episode
An area of low pressure formed across a warm front along the Virginia/North Carolina border on May 13. This allowed for a period of elevated east-southeast winds across the Chesapeake Bay, Lower James River, and North Carolina coastal waters. These winds were enhanced by convection moving across the water.
