The Truth or Consequences ASOS reported a peak gust of 67 mph. The Salinas Peak Mesonet site recorded a peak gust of 65 mph.

An upper trough was moving into the Great Basin with west-southwest flow over the Borderland. An 80 knot jet was also located along the International Border aiding in developing strong winds up to 86 mph.
