Severe (D2) drought conditions persisted over all of Garfield County through the end of May. The cooperative observer at Burwell reported 6.61 inches of precipitation for May. This was 2.57 inches above the normal of 4.04 inches. The cooperative observer at Ericson 8WNW reported 3.94 inches of precipitation for May. This was 0.03 inches below the normal of 3.97 inches.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions remained largely unchanged across western and north central Nebraska in May. There was some limited improvements over northern Nebraska, with some deterioration in drought conditions over southwestern Nebraska.
