Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions persisted over most of Wheeler County through the end of May. Over far northeastern portions of the county, severe (D2) drought conditions deteriorated to extreme (D3) drought conditions by the end of the month.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions remained largely unchanged across western and north central Nebraska in May. There was some limited improvements over northern Nebraska, with some deterioration in drought conditions over southwestern Nebraska.
