Moderate (D1) drought conditions deteriorated to severe (D2) drought conditions over far southeastern portions of Arthur County by the end of May. Over the remainder of the county, moderate (D1) drought conditions continued through the end of the month. The cooperative observer at Arthur reported 3.43 inches of precipitation in May. This was 0.06 inches above the normal of 3.37 inches.
Wider weather episode
Drought conditions remained largely unchanged across western and north central Nebraska in May. There was some limited improvements over northern Nebraska, with some deterioration in drought conditions over southwestern Nebraska.
