Event narrative

The Texas Coastal Oceanic Observation Network (TCOON) location at Realitos Peninsula (along Laguna Madre near the entrance of Arroyo Colorado) recorded a peak gust of 35.57 knots along/just behind a decaying line of showers and embedded thunderstorms, between 630 and 636 AM CST (730 and 746 AM CDT). Gale force gusts persisted off and on for a little more than one hour.

Wider weather episode

A dissipating front combined with upper-level energy to produce two lines of thunderstorms on successive mornings in late May 2025. The first situation, a decaying line of broken showers and a few thunderstorms, raced southward across the Lower Texas Gulf/Laguna Madre waters during the early morning of the 27th. On May 28th, a more intense squall line developed inland and gradually moved into the nearshore Gulf waters. Gale-force wind gusts and torrential rainfall accompanied the second line in a few locations along the coast.
