Event narrative

The NOAA C-MAN station at Port Isabel recorded a peak gust of 46.461 knots as a squall line of strong thunderstorms moved across the Lower Texas coast. Time of the peak gust was 724 CST (824 CDT), but gale-force gusts persisted from 715 until 730 CST (815 until 830 CDT).

Wider weather episode

A dissipating front combined with upper-level energy to produce two lines of thunderstorms on successive mornings in late May 2025. The first situation, a decaying line of broken showers and a few thunderstorms, raced southward across the Lower Texas Gulf/Laguna Madre waters during the early morning of the 27th. On May 28th, a more intense squall line developed inland and gradually moved into the nearshore Gulf waters. Gale-force wind gusts and torrential rainfall accompanied the second line in a few locations along the coast.
