Event narrative
County comms reported flash flooding developed across the north side of the city of Greenwood after 3 to 5 inches of rain fell over the city in only 2-3 hours. The main impact was to Rocky Creek, which overflowed its banks and inundated portions of Haltiwanger Rd and Rockcreek Blvd. An apartment complex on Haltiwanger Rd was evacuated after bring threatened by floodwater. Multiple roads were reportedly closed throughout the city due to a combination of urban flash flooding and small stream inundation.
Wider weather episode
Scattered thunderstorms and storm clusters developed across upstate South Carolina during the evening. One storm produced a brief tornado in Abbeville County. Storms and clusters tended to move slowly, resulting in locally heavy rainfall, with isolated flash flooding developing where multiple storms moved over the same areas.
