Wider weather episode
Upper ridging expanded west from the Southeast Gulf Coast into much of the Four State Region from July 15th-17th. Strong subsidence beneath the ridge resulted in compressional warming, which enabled afternoon temperatures each day to climb into the mid and upper 90s across North Louisiana, extreme Southern Arkansas and Eastern Texas. Coupled with ample low level moisture that persisted across the area, heat indices ranged from 105-110 degrees each day.
