Wider weather episode
A weak front off the coast of North Carolina combined with a surface trough across the Coastal Plain to promote scattered showers and thunderstorm development across eastern North Carolina during the afternoon and evening of July Twenty-Seventh. A few isolated storms became strong to severe in nature as storms tracked south and east through the afternoon and evening. This brought strong wind gusts mainly along the northern sounds and rivers of Eastern North Carolina.
