An extended period of dense fog was observed on Interstate 81 during the early morning hours of June 17, 2025. Low visibilities on the Interstate caused a three-vehicle incident, causing one injury and closing the roadway for an extended period of time. A speed restriction was in place for portions of Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County due to the low visibilities and fog.

Easterly flow, allowing for an influx of low-level moisture from the Chesapeake Bay, allowed for fog development across portions of eastern Pennsylvania during the early morning hours of June 17, 2025. Fog quickly became dense in the rugged terrain of Schuylkill County, allowing for an extended period of visibilities dropping near and below a quarter of a mile through the mid-morning hours of June 17th. Low visibility, due to fog, caused a motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles on the northbound lane of Interstate 81 causing one injury. A speed restriction was in place due to fog and low visibility on Interstate 81 at the time of the incident.
