Lightning struck a transformer and caused it to blow up along the 2800 block of Narrow Gauge Road.

Wider weather episode

A cold front approaching the Appalachian Mountains combined with a hot and humid air mass to produce a severe thunderstorm in Rockingham County of northwest North Carolina. Damaging wind gusts from this storm blew down three trees with one falling on to a power line, and lightning from this storm also struck and blew up a transformer.
