Event narrative

Lightning struck a house along the 1000 block of River Ridge Road and set it on fire. The fire caused some damage to the house before it was extinguished.

Wider weather episode

A cold front approaching the Appalachian Mountains combined with a hot and humid air mass to produce scattered severe thunderstorms across southwest Virginia. Damaging wind gusts from these storms blew down several trees and power lines, and lightning from one of these storms struck a house and set it on fire in Buckingham County.
