Thunderstorm winds blew down three power lines with one near the intersection of Catawba Road and Etzler Road, another near the intersection of Catawba Road and Glebe Road, and the other near the intersection of Glebe Road and Orchard Lake Drive.

Wider weather episode

A cold front approaching the Appalachian Mountains combined with a hot and humid air mass to produce scattered severe thunderstorms across southwest Virginia. Damaging wind gusts from these storms blew down several trees and power lines, and lightning from one of these storms struck a house and set it on fire in Buckingham County.
