Most of mainland Monroe County began the month of May in a severe (D2) to extreme (D3) drought which lingered though rainfall activity mid to late month allowed for slight improvement to widespread severe (D2) drought by the end of the month.
Wider weather episode
Prolonged periods of dry weather across much of South Florida during the winter and spring months led to the continuing and intensification of drought conditions through the end of May.
