Wider weather episode

A prolonged stretch of dangerous heat impacted eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa from Friday, June 20th through Sunday, June 22nd, 2025. The heat was driven by a mid-level ridge centered over the central Plains, resulting in oppressive conditions across the region. Heat index values peaked between 109 and 115 degrees, based on observations from ASOS/AWOS sites and personal weather stations. Overnight lows remained uncomfortably warm, ranging from the mid-70s to around 80 degrees, with minimum heat indices lingering in the upper 70s to mid 80s. This lack of overnight relief contributed to accumulating heat stress, particularly among vulnerable populations.
