Wind gusts of up to 37 knots (43 MPH) were measured by a personal weather station in Alexandria (KVAALEXA356) adjacent to the tidal Potomac River.

A strong cold front intersected a hot and very humid airmass resulting in several clusters of severe thunderstorms across the Mid-Atlantic.
