Mesonet site XFIR at Fire Island Coast Guard measured a 46 knot wind gust.
Wider weather episode
The combination of a frontal boundary moving north of the area and a weak upper level shortwave allowed showers and thunderstorms to spark to our south and west. One of these clusters became severe, and produced damaging winds over the waters.
