The Big Sioux River near Estelline rose above flood stage on the morning of July 28th, cresting around 2.15 feet above flood stage (1646.15 ft) later that day. This is in the moderate category. The river stayed above flood stage into early August.

Wider weather episode

A wet period at the end of the July resulted in saturated soils and increased runoff, allowing isolated river flooding along the upper Big Sioux River Basin. Minor to very localized moderate river flooding was observed.
