Event narrative

Lightning struck a house and set it on fire along the 4500 block of Rosecrest Road. Damage to the house was confined to the kitchen area.

Wider weather episode

A hot and humid air mass combined with orographical lift to produce isolated severe thunderstorms across southwest Virginia. Damaging wind gusts from these storms blew down a few trees in Franklin and Henry counties, and lightning from these storms struck a house in both Franklin and Roanoke counties and set them on fire.
