Thunderstorm winds blew down one tree near the intersection of Old US Route 52 South and Farm Way.
Wider weather episode
A hot and humid air mass combined with orographical lift to produce a severe thunderstorm in Surry County of northwest North Carolina. Damaging wind gusts from this storm blew down three trees. In addition, lightning from a different storm struck the Winstead Pumping Station in Reidsville and damaged the generator transfer switch and central panel, which led to nearly 4,200 gallons of untreated sewage being released into Lick Fork Creek.
