Event narrative

A trained weather spotter reported large trees down blocking Route 44 between Millerton and Amenia.

Wider weather episode

Dangerous levels of heat and humidity preceded a potent upper level shortwave, corresponding jet streak and strong cold front that led to the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms across portions of eastern New York. A few of these thunderstorms reached severe magnitude, particularly in Dutchess and Rensselaer Counties, producing damaging wind gusts that led to tree damage in these areas. Most of the damage reports relayed road closures and blockages due to one or several downed trees.
