Event narrative

A New York alert message from the Department of Highways relayed the closure of both lanes of NY route 343 due to a large downed tree just past Old Route 22.

Wider weather episode

The passage of a strong cold front led to windy conditions, especially across portions of eastern New York's higher terrain regions. Wind gusts anywhere from 20 to 40 mph were common across all of eastern New York, however, with a peak gust of 42 mph recorded by a CWOP site in Kerhonkson in Ulster County. Additionally, an isolated report of wind damage was relayed to NWS Albany from the Department of Highways via NY Alert wherein NY Route 343 was closed on both sides due to a downed tree.
