Wider weather episode
Convective development along and north of the warm front with some pea to dime size hail in the Straits region early. During the evening hours, this convective activity was intensified by atmospheric gravity waves that allowed for strong downward momentum transport in an otherwise very stable low-level environment that was unfavorable for damaging winds. Scattered power outages prior to icing occurred with these storms, as well as some wind damage. Thunderstorms continued into the night, with precipitation across the M-68/M-32 corridors slowly transitioning from rain to freezing rain with time.
