Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Company reported outages for roughly 1,400 people in Sonoita, Whetstone, Benson, and Wilcox due to multiple thunderstorm hazards including lightning, fallen branches, and heavy rain that arched power lines.

Wider weather episode

An anomalous early push of tropical moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Alvin brought strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall to Southeast Arizona. Notably, there was damage to electrical equipment in Douglas, AZ causing a power outage to 1,400 people.
