Event narrative

Strong thunderstorm winds knocked over a large tree which fell onto a camper. It was reported via New York State Police that two people were seriously injured and transported to the hospital.

Wider weather episode

A mesoscale convective system (MCS) dropped southward across Central NY from eastern Ontario, moving into an environment with plenty of moisture and instability during the early morning hours. This complex of thunderstorms started to bow out and produced widespread damaging wind gusts and heavy rain. A couple of small kinks along the leading edge of the line of storms did result in two EF-1 tornadoes spinning up before daybreak in Oneida County. Unfortunately one of the tornadoes resulted in 3 fatalities in Clark Mills, NY.
