Wider weather episode
On the 19th, South Texas remained under the influence of a weak surface ridging. However, the main 500 mb high ridge that had been a fixture over the area continued to shift further westward across the SW CONUS. This westward shift allowed for a more favorable environment for lift and precipitation with a passage of a series of shortwave troughs expected this day. With the combination of mid to upper-level forcing from the shortwaves, daytime heating, and ample moisture, thunderstorm activity was anticipated to increase in intensity and coverage through the day. A series of stronger storms led to gusty winds, particularly across our marine areas.
