Event narrative
During the late afternoon of the second day of a multi-day heatwave, a 65 year old woman on the 3rd/top floor of an apartment building in the Village of Owego suffered a medical emergency due to the heat and passed away. The apartment had no air conditioning and had warmed to 105 degrees. Even emergency responses were hindered due to extreme heat conditions causing the providers to become fatigued at a faster-than-normal rate.

A strong ridge of high pressure over the region led to the development of record-breaking heat and humidity on this day. Heat index values approached 110 degrees in urban valley areas, which resulted in extreme heat warnings to be issued. This was the second day in a multi-day heat wave event. Unfortunately a woman suffered a medical emergency in the late afternoon due to the heat and passed away at her apartment.
