Event narrative

The Dinosaur NM 19N RAWS recorded a gust to 62 mph at approximately 8:22 PM MDT on June 12th. This gust was associated with a small thunderstorm that had formed over the Dinosaur National Monument area. This was the only gust recorded in the area, and no reports of damages, injuries, or fatalities were received associated with it.

Wider weather episode

A much drier airmass was working in across eastern Utah and western Colorado on the afternoon of June 12th. This allowed for drier air to infiltrate surface levels, while enough moisture remained aloft to produce showers and thunderstorms. These two factors combined to create strong and efficient outflow winds that were capable of producing severe gusts in excess of 58 mph.
