A few trees and power lines were downed around Cedar Bluff, including Railroad Ave at Cornwall Ave, Cornwall Dr at Westbrook St, Reese St, and McElrath St.
Wider weather episode
A strong thunderstorm line segment moved south from DeKalb County into Cherokee County during the late afternoon of August 20, producing scattered instances of wind damage across the county, including around Centre, Leesburg, Sand Rock, Cedar Bluff, and Broomtown. Single trees fell onto homes in a couple instances, causing damage. Approximately 2600 power outages were reported to Cherokee Electric. Additionally, a tree fell on a kayaker along Terrapin Creek, resulting in an injury.
A short while later, heavy rain across parts of downtown Birmingham and Irondale resulted in several instances of street flooding after as much as 2.5-3.5 of rain fell.
