Trained Spotter reported more than 24 hours of steady snowfall with a 24 hour storm total snowfall of 8 inches at the top of Atigun Pass along the Dalton Highway.

Wider weather episode

An unusualy strong and cold upper level low stretching from the Arctic Ocean back to near Kodiak Island helped set the stage for a late season snowfall event across the higher terrain of the Brooks Range near the Dalton Highway. As moisture moved north towards the Brooks Range, precipitation quickly changed to snow and persisted for more than 24 hours.
