Wider weather episode
An upper trough approached the Mid-Atlantic region from the west on June 19th. Strong solar heating and rich low level moisture combined for robust instability across the area. Moderate wind shear ahead of the upper trough resulted in sufficient shear for thunderstorm organization and resulted in widespread strong winds over the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic coastal waters.
