Event narrative

Over a dozen large trees were downed by thunderstorm winds near the Hamptonville Airport, and portions of the tin roof on a hangar were blown off.

Wider weather episode

A cold front moved across northern North Carolina during the afternoon and evening of June 19. This front interacted with a very unstable environment during the peak heating of the day. The presence of moderate shear allowed an organized line of strong to severe thunderstorms to form and cause damaging thunderstorm winds around much of northern North Carolina.
