Event narrative
The ASOS station at Dryden measured a wind gust of 62 mph, along with a couple of other severe wind gusts. The total time of occurrence is partially estimated.
Wider weather episode
Upslope flow, differential heating, and upper-level vorticity maxima in the weak flow aloft led to the development of scattered thunderstorms in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. These storms generally began in the higher terrain and moved northeast. The low levels were fairly dry, which allowed for a couple of storms to produce severe downburst winds.
