Event narrative

Multiple reports were received from the public of approximately 10 power poles broken just above the base along Hwy 285 between Pecos and Mentone. All poles were laying to the west away from the road. This was likely the result of a localized microburst with wind speeds estimated to have been up to 100 mph.

Wider weather episode

Differential heating and upslope flow led to the development of thunderstorms during the afternoon of the 18th. One of these thunderstorms produced a microburst between Pecos and Mentone.
