Event narrative

A few hundred power outages were reported, due to trees down on power lines.

Wider weather episode

In a warm and humid air mass with weak steering flow but high moisture and instability, a few clusters of storms that started over the northwest Piedmont became more numerous as they tracked east southeast and approached the Triangle, producing areas of strong downdrafts and prompting three severe warnings over and southeast of the Triangle. Flood advisories were also issued, with the main one being over Raleigh. After multiple days of above normal rainfall, including that which produced considerable flooding in Moore county and Chapel Hill, this additional rain led to flash flooding in the usual spots in Raleigh.
