High surf and rip currents impacted the New Hampshire Seacoast all weekend long as Hurricane Erin passed well off to the east with multiple rescues being recorded. A farther and son were caught in a rip current on the evening of August 24th at Hampton Beach. There were no lifeguards on duty at the time. Emergency personal were able to rescue them from the water, but were not able to resuscitate the son.

Large surf impacted the New Hampshire Seacoast for days with long period swells from the passage of Hurricane Erin well offshore. The large waves caused dangerous rip currents through the weekend with numerous rescues being reported from Rye Beach to Hampton Beach. On Sunday evening, a farther and son were caught in a rip current that caused an injury and drowning.
