Wider weather episode
An outflow boundary interacting with a warm and very humid airmass triggered a Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) over central Illinois during the late evening of July 25th. Nearly continuous lightning was observed with the storm cluster along with torrential rainfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour. The storms also created scattered minor wind damage from near Petersburg in Menard County northeastward to Waynesville in DeWitt County before gradually weakening later in the evening.
