Event narrative

A family of waterspouts was observed between Summerland and Big Pine Key on the Gulf of America waters. The waterspouts all had full condensation funnel clouds extending from cloud base to the water surface with one featuring a visible spray ring.

Wider weather episode

A weak lower tropospheric boundary moved eastward and intersected with a developing cumulus cloud line embedded in west-southwest flow. This initiated conditions for waterspout formation along the Gulf side of the Lower Florida Keys.
