Event narrative

Flooding along Woodland Hills Road in Abingdon. Additional pictures received at 11:45 PM EDT via X show water running over neighborhood road, and water pooling in low spots to a depth of several inches, inundating the lower portions of mailbox posts. Standing water was also visible in front yards. A total of 2.5 inches of rain had fallen at the time of the second report.

Wider weather episode

Scattered thunderstorms affected the southern Appalachian region on the evening of June 27th, and specifically far western Virginia where flash flooding occurred in Russell and Washington counties.
