Event narrative

Debris flow off of the Trout Fire was flowing down Pictograph Canyon across Highway 35. The road was impassable. Radar indicated 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall above the road.

Wider weather episode

A deep southerly flow across New Mexico ahead of an upper trough over the southwestern U.S. brought heavy rain to the Gila region and the Trout burn scar.
